From Thai ER to Beach Bars and Backyard Soil

10th until 21st of Apr 2026

Tue 21 Apr 2026, 7:27:07 pm CET OK, I think it is time for another update. It's been a while since the last one, but it's really been crazy and - as they say - "time REALLY flies when you are having fun". I have been busy with work, family, and of course, my hobbies.

The biggest thing that occupied our time the most recently was the fact that J. fell sick during his vacation in the trip to Thailand. It was a bit scary at first, but luckily with the guidance of us and the local doctors, it seems he received the correct treatment and is now on the road to recovery. It was a bit of a roller-coaster, but we are grateful that everything turned out well in the end. But it was a lot of worrying and stressful moments, especially since they - J and K - are in a foreign country and had to navigate the healthcare system there. It was a reminder of how important it is to have travel insurance and to be prepared for unexpected situations when travelling. It was really taking a lot of our time and energy, during odd hours, and we had to coordinate with the local doctors and hospitals to ensure that J received the necessary care. It was a bit of a challenge, but we managed to get an appointment also tomorrow with a specialist here. Anyways, after a 20 hour layover in Beijing, they are now on their way back home, and we are looking forward to seeing them again soon.

We also kept busy, we spent most of the weekend on the seaside, enjoying the nice weather and the beautiful scenery. We went for long walks on the seaside deck, enjoying drinks in one of the many bars and restaurants there, and just relaxing and soaking up the sun. It was a great way to unwind and meeting the family, and we had a lot of fun together. H and I spent the night in a hotel there, the same one as last year, so all was familiar and nice.

What else, seems like ages ago and I have difficulties to remember, but we also had a lot of projects going on in the garden. The annual spring cleaning and maintenance of the garden, preparing it for summer. Putting the terrace furniture in place, cleaning up in the garden, planting new flowers and shrubs, and just generally sprucing up the outdoor space. We even cleaned out the garden shed, which was long overdue. It was a lot of work, but it was also really rewarding to see the transformation of the garden and to spend time outdoors. We are looking forward to enjoying the garden more in the coming months, and we have some plans for further improvements and additions to the outdoor space. The dream is to have a pizza oven in the garden, in a new solution. Hopefully it is feasible to do it this year, but we will see.

Did you know that..? I try to find an interesting historical event that occurred on this day. Tue 21 Apr 2026, 7:27:07 pm CET Did you know that today in 1782 is when the city of Rattanakosin, now known internationally as Bangkok Read more about it on Wikipedia., is founded on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River by King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke.
