Fire-Fighting and Flora: A Day in the Life of a Techie

23 of Apr 2025

Wed Apr 23 2025, 9:05:55 pm CET It's been a busy day at work today. Mostly dealing with putting out fires and some urgent issues that needed to be resolved. I will leave it with that without too much detail. I am sure you can imagine what I mean, we are all intelligent people here.

A little quick update on my tobacco plant tobacco, plant, gardening projectLook at these babies.... As far as I can see, it is doing very well, but I have to keep an eye on it. I have to water it every day and make sure it gets enough sunlight - the artificial kind though.

Some time back I was going to update the Hugo version on my Mac laptop . It is getting very old - it is now 11 years old - and the OS upgrade stopped some time back. I sit with version 11.7 and that is what I have to work with. If I had read the release before I started my attempt to upgrade, I would have seen that the latest version of Hugo is not compatible with my OS. Long story short, in my desperate attempts to get it to work, I ended up with a broken installation of Hugo. I tried to fix it, but I could not get it to work. I ended up removing the whole installation and in the hope that I could install a compatible version from scratch. That did not happen until today. I started researching the option of installing a Docker image of Hugo. As I ran into problems early on, I gave up that plan as well. Fast forward a couple of hours (not actively of course, but I had it processing in my head) and I came across an article This article was the needed game-changer! on Internet listing the steps to install Hugo on a Mac. It is more a question of having the dependencies running, rather than Hugo itself. I followed the instructions  and it worked like a charm. Once I had correctly re-installed the Xcode-select, Go and Homebrew, I was able to install Hugo in a matter of minutes. The last step was to actually compile the new Hugo version. Fantastic, like magic I have the latest version of Hugo running perfectly!

OK, now it is time for me to enjoy a dinner all by my lonesome. My H. is out for dinner with a group of friends - all the mums of J. friends are actually meeting a couple of times per year. The idea is that all the fathers will do the same, but the plans are still in the planning stage... "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus", right?

Did you know that..? I try to find an interesting historical event that occurred on this day. Wed 23 Apr 2025, 7:13:28 pm CET Did you know that today in 1985 is when Coca-Cola changes its formula and releases New Coke Read more about it on Wikipedia.. The response is overwhelmingly negative, and the original formula is back on the market in less than three months.
